Abstract: | Creative businesses represent the cultural identity of a region and the country. The pride of India is its diversity in traditions, arts and crafts. These are our heritage governing our values and lifestyles. India has among the largest craft varieties and people involved in this vocation. While these people live mainly in rural and peripheral urban areas, even cities have heritage and crafts of their own. But the sector is yet to justify its potential although the government, voluntary organizations and private initiatives been trying to sustain it. Interestingly, while the sector here is considered as 'sundown', China has recognised it as 'sunrise' sector. The present approach at the policy and implementation levels has to move from mere employment generation to that of well being where entrepreneurship has to be the core. A model based on wealth creation has to be implemented up to the grassroots. |
