Abstract: This research paper investigates the deterrents faced by social entrepreneurs in scaling-up of social ventures. One of the few available frameworks in scaling is the SCALERS model. Drawing from it, this study interviews five social entrepreneurs and its employees and proposes two new factors that might affect scaling up process. A model fit has been found between each of SCALERS variables and deterrents – except- Practical Rationality and Interprofessionalism which are new to the model. This paper might help practitioners understand the complexities and nuances of scaling underpinning social entrepreneurship and academicians might benefit from further developing SCALERS model to better suit both worlds.
