Fourteenth Biennial Conference on Entrepreneurship/ Edited by Rajeev Sharma, Sunil Shukla, Amit Kumar Dwivedi & Ganapathi Batthinien_US
Challenged with problems on multiple levels, India needs more of change agents, who can work for social welfare along with ensuring holistic development. Social entrepreneurs are one among them. This makes the field of Social Entrepreneurship (SE) one of the critical determinants for a sustainable future. This paper argues for promoting SE through the vast network of Indian Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). As public goods bearing responsibility for societal welfare, and being among the well-resourced institutions; HEIs can emerge as model incubation centres for promoting SE in India. This paper aims to assess this possibility, by evaluating the performance of few Indian HEIs in this regard, and closes by laying out a strategic plan of action for the future.en_US
