Abstract: | The rural economy is crucial to the development of the country, and a significant portion of the rural population in India depends on traditional crafts practiced in rural areas. Promoting such industries is essential for fostering prosperity, especially since it entails significantly lower capital costs. Lack of assistance, in terms of technological improvements, quality raw materials at reasonable rates, and restricted market access are some of the major obstacles which artisans must overcome. Government supports various efforts with the dual goals of promoting traditional craft and upliftment of rural artisans. One such programme is Scheme of Funds for Regeneration of Traditional Industries (SFURTI) of the Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises. The provisions under SFURTI are well defined and well-structured. However, it also gives the flexibility to provide for customised interventions within the conceptual framework. |
