Abstract: Sustenance and growth of any enterprise depends upon its competitiveness. Jaggery industry is an age-old industry manufacturing Jaggery by extracting cane juice and evaporating the same. Jaggery so obtained is of sub-standard and contains harmful added chemicals and extraneous impurities. In the last two decades, more than 5,000 Jaggery units were established in Mandya district. As on date, out of these 5000 1 units, about 400 units are functioning. A detailed study of Jaggery cluster was undertaken by EDII, R.O, Bangalore and a proposal was made to organize an EDP focusing on infusing new technology into Jaggery industry and new cadre of technically trained entrepreneurs. Hence, this proposal was submitted to NSTEDB.
