Abstract: India has certainly emerged as the testing ground for potential Indian women entrepreneurs. Indian women are not only educated, talented, confident, assertive, ambitious, and career oriented but they also know their minds! This helps them to juggle the tasks, manage all the chores and strike a perfect balance between their professional and personal lives.Hence, foresight, time-management ability, patience, negotiating and budgeting skills of an entrepreneur are deep-rooted in the modern woman. Women’s entrepreneurship needs to be studied separately for two main reasons. The first reason is that women’s entrepreneurship has been recognised during the last decade as an important untapped source of economic growth. And secondly it has been contributing increasingly to economic development.Women’s entrepreneurship is both about women’s position in society and the role of entrepreneurship in the same society. The study explains the various schemes for the development and promotion of women entrepreneurs in India by focusing on how the government creates awareness among women entrepreneurs and encourage them to invest in various sectors of Small and Medium Scale Enterprises. Further more, internal challenges have also been addressed.
