Abstract: | With increase in population, transportation has increased many folds in India. Today India ranks first in the world in utilizing commercial vehicles used for transportation. The road safety and space utilization are essential parts of transportation and has straight relation to road furniture. The term “road furniture”encompasses all roadside objects used for safety and control of traffic in addition to those for assisting the driver. Road furniture items provide drivers with the necessary warnings, rules, distance and directional information in order to travel the roads and safely. An important consideration in the design of road furniture (as given here) is how it affects road safety. This awarding of road contracts and beautifying with Road Furniture is one such area where Indian Government has decided to spend a huge amount both in government and private sectors. So in India, Road Furniture business has very bright future. The beauty of this business is its flexibility, variety, novelty and scope in terms of Investment, Education, experience and gender. One can easily start this business with small or big investment, very high or less education, skilled or unskilled ability, male or female etc. Other such advantages are also discussed in this paper. Also, in this business, along with manufacturing, its marketing and maintenance being the integrated parts of this business and have also bright business prospects. Hence they are also incorporated in this paper. Final recommendations are made such as how the entrepreneur should undertake a Road Furniture Study and project the demand for the next three to five year period and should explore opportunities for revenue generation, improved services, and enhanced aesthetics of small and big road items, such as benches, transit shelters, litter containers, notice kiosks, etc. so as to secure his business, also with low investment and competition. |
