A stream containing 0.3:1 ratio of steam to hydrocarbon is heated to 9000C in a vertical tubular furnace Optimum yield pattern is obtained in less than 0.5 seconds. The reaction is halted by lowering the temperature in the transfer 1ine exchangers. Heat recovery is by generation of high pressure steam which in turn is used to drive the process gas and refrigeration compressors. The remaining steps are similar to ethane cracking with additional fractionation stages i nvo 1ved to separate the increased range of heavierthan- ethylene components.en_US
