Polyvinyl chloride is prepared commercially by the free-radical initiated polymerisation of vinyl chloride. In the suspension process; deionised water, suspending agents and vinyl chloride monomer (99 wt percent min) are charged into the polymerizer. The contents, are heated up to 560C before adding the initiator emulsion. A conversion of 90 percent is usually achieved after a reaction time of 6-8 hours. Unreacted monomer is stripped off and sent to the monomer recovery system. tripped PVC slurry is dewatered by using a centrifuge. The PVC cake is dried and screened to remove oversize resin before packing.en_US
