Abstract: Agriculture is the primary sector of Indian economy and has the largest number of private enterprises. The agriculture sector has large opportunities for entrepreneurial activities but due to limited availability of infrastructure and farming techniques bordering between primitive and traditional are the two major constraints in agricultural development. Agricultural entrepreneurship in India is usually governed by tradition and culture resulting lower rate of output and income. Higher income and more output, by and large, characterize economic development and by proper exploitation of potentialities of the agriculture sector, the agricultural production can be increased for raising the income of the people. The North Eastern tribal area is rich in resources both in mineral and agricultural and given the opportunities can give a lift in agriculture sector, as there are potentialities for development of agricultural entrepreneurship. Keeping the development potentialities of agriculture sector in view, the study is undertaken in Karbi Anglong District, a hill District of Assam falling under Sixth Schedule areas of the Constitution, where majority of the population is tribal. The study is analytical in nature. The study attempts to bring to light the entrepreneurial opportunities for development of agricultural entrepreneurship in the District and also the economic viability of different entrepreneurial projects under agriculture sector in the study area. The development of entrepreneurship under agriculture sector can create investment opportunities for the financial institutions and in this regard the study highlights the untapped investment opportunities in agriculture sector activities in the District. The paper concludes by emphasing on proper exploitation of the untapped opportunities of the agriculture sector which can lead the District to economic development and prosperity of the people engaged in this sector.
