Abstract: | While researching on the staphylococcal variants in 1928, A. Fleming found that the propagation of bacteria being suppressed in culture media stained with mildews. It was named penicillin after the nomenclature of penicillium to which the material produced by mildews belonged, heralding the start of penicillin. Studies on this material in terms of bacteriostatic agent rapidly progressed thereafter to make its industrial mass production possible. Meanwhile, various other derivatives of penicillin have been produced with its mother nucleus 6-APA as a starting material. |
