Abstract: The present paper examines turmeric processing units at Kandhamal district in Orissa. It provides the background of evolution of these enterprises, business operation and potential of these microenterprises in local economic development in terms of local employment, income generation. It also captures the value chain of turmeric processing in the district which gives light to the value chain participants, their functions and the inter-firm co-operation that exist in the value chain which could be capitalized for further development of these microenterprises. The increasing demand both domestic as well as international offers potential for further growth of these microenterprises.
