Goa is a state with tourist potential and it has led to transformation and development of the state. With development there has been employment generation as well as better education and skilling of youth. Though this is a positive and healthy sign for economy of the state, it has subtly impacted the traditional occupations and related entrepreneurship in Goa. It is believed that people involved in indigenous/traditional entrepreneurship like reindeir, poder, kasar, ramponkars, chambbar, mhalo, madvol, kumbhar, mithgaudi, etc. are slowly giving up these traditional occupations. This paper is an exploratory study involving case studies on indigenous entrepreneurs in Goa and deals with issues like: What are the reasons why people are giving up indigenous entrepreneurship? What is the impact of development related factors such as industrialization, globalization, consumer preferences & lifestyle, education & skilling etc. on indigenous entrepreneurship? Whether higher education and skill building has motivated indigenous people to continue and excel in their traditional occupations, or has it led youth shy away from their traditional occupations and seek employment elsewhere? What are the reasons for such behavior? What are the challenges these people face in running business? etc. are dealt in the paper.en_US
