Abstract: | The importance of the role of nurses in planning and policy making in the healthcare sector is indisputable. This role involves co-ordination, monitoring, comforting etc. Nursing role has generally involved a one-to- one or one-to- few interaction between nurse and patient. This role demands high sensitivity to individuals' needs and knowledge of how to respond effectively, arguably better than any other kind of health professional today. Advanced practice nurses need not be confined to direct individual and/or family services. The challenge today is to develop a new advanced nursing practice that promotes the health of geographic populations through primary prevention. And this calls upon the efficacy with which nurses fulfill their role in patient care. Patient care strategies involve organization and policy initiatives, and practitioners must be skilled in those strategies and know when and where to use them. Such significant change in nursing practice would involve understanding and reviewing the current nursing role and the role efficacy of nurses. |
