Abstract: Women in India enter into business either due to pull or push factors at play. Pull factor refers to the process in which women are encouraged to venture into a business with an urge of doing independently something unique. On the other hand push factors reflects upon the process in which women are compelled to take up their own business in order to tackle-up their economic difficulties as well as responsibilities. In India, most of the women are now showing their preferences towards the entrepreneurship rather than going into the fields of professional or other services. Women are choosing both the traditional as well as the non-traditional activities and are performing well. Unfortunately, there are difficulties to eradicate completely the evil conception of male dominated society. Several factors affect the establishment and operation of enterprises and their business decisions regarding technology, investment, employment, etc., such as, market conditions, availability of infrastructure and the support and promotional framework of the government. It is generally believed that the government promotes women to come forward in the mainstream of development through becoming an ‘Entrepreneurs’. The present study examines some of these issues with respect to Women Entrepreneurs in U.P. More specifically, the objectives of the study are:  To examine the socio-cultural and economic factors that influence the growth and arena of activity of female entrepreneurs and to delineate factors inducing women to become entrepreneurs- push and pull factors.  To identify problems unique to women in setting up and running their enterprises and analyzing the causes of their relative success and failure.
