dc.description.abstract.In Laos, there are few cottage industries where shoes are manufactured, ~especiallyin southern provinces. There are also few units of leather shoe manufacturers in northern and hilly provinces. Most cottage industries work IWithout any machinery but only hand tools. There are many small-scale units, that employ basic technologies. Certain small-scale units have installed 'machines, which bring quality in shoe manufacturing and also increase the, production. Making shoes manually requires a lot of skill and time. The demand both in Laos and on international front has increased along with increased importance of punctuality of export commitments has led to a requirement, ipartial mechanization of these units. This change has long come in western kountrtes and the production process has also Significantly developed.en_US
