The development of modern small scale Industries has been one of the most significant & characteristic features of industrial development in India. The most important aspect of small industry development is that this sector has stimulated economic activity of a far- reaching magnitude & created sense of confidence among a huge number of small entrepreneurs about their strength & vitality. Because of its shorter gestation period, its adaptability to semi-urban & rural environment, where infrastructure is available & capacity to attract small savings. & direct them to productive channels, the small industries sector has been recognised, in successive Five Years Plans, as an effective instrument in the development of backward &rural areas.en_US
