Thirteenth Biennial Conference on Entrepreneurship/ Edited by Sasi Misra, Sunil Shukla, Ganapathi Batthinien_US
India is a diverse country with multi-cultural backgrounds. However, entrepreneurial intention of the nation seems to be growing irrespective of it. With policies like start-up India and make in India, India gears up to be at par with other major global players. But are Indian start-ups scalable enough to meet the world standards? What are the challenges Indian entrepreneurs faces in doing it? What added resources/benefits would they like to have? This study tries to investigate major challenge that stops or slows down start-ups from scaling up. The study also investigates suitability of government policies from the entrepreneur’s perspective and their views on what resources they would like to have from the government. The study was conducted in Ahmedabad city with 36 entrepreneurs whose start-up is more than 2 years old and are in the process of scaling. There was no sampling frame for this research and data was collected through self-administered questionnaire. The findings reveal that lack of funds, skilled manpower and improper policy implementation are major challenges entrepreneurs face on a daily basis. This study can be used by academicians to teach the nuances of entrepreneurship and its real-life underpinnings. New start-ups can take a cue from this study and build their business keeping in mind the challenges they are likely to face in future.en_US
