dc.description.abstract | The word tribe can be generally defined as a group of families bound together by kinship, usually descending from a mythical or legendary ancestor, living in a common region, speaking a common dialect and having a common historical past. In the context of India, the tribes are considered to be the early settlers of Indian Union. They settled before the Dravidians and Aryans As per the census of 2011 the tribal population in India is listed as 10 crores against the total population of 121 crores. However, reports of different organizations of Indian government have revealed that the tribals are backward and poverty-ridden irrespective of rural and urban areas. They are even lagging behind the other backward sections of the Indian communities. | en_US |
