Abstract: The art of dyeing is a branch of applied chemistry in which a use of both physical and chemical principle is made in order to bring about a permanent union between the dyes and the textile materials. The art lies in colouring the textile in such a manner the colour may be fast and is not removed by operations such as working, rubbing, sunlight etc. Yarn dyeing is a common feature in the North Eastern states with nearly 50% of the handloom being located here and the demand for dyed yarn both cotton and silk is of great demand for this sector.
