Abstract:
Intrapreneurship is recognized as an act of entrepreneurship within an
organization. Organizations employ skills and spirits of an entrepreneur, among
their employees. Globally, MNCs have realized that to grow further, they have to
acquire a start-up mindset and zeal of an entrepreneur and for this; they have to
nurture ‘intrapreneurs’. In this paper, intrapreneurial practices of selected global
pharmaceutical companies have been identified. Besides identification, i.e.,
covering ‘what’ aspect, their geographic presence, an emphasis is to identify
‘how they do’, i.e., ‘how’ aspect of intrapreneurship. Twenty (20) out of top fifty
(50) global pharmaceutical companies as recognized in terms of their revenue
have been selected for further analysis. It has been observed that the concept of
intrapreneurship is being applied in diverse areas within pharmaceutical
industry, i.e., in Research and Development (R&D), Product Development,
exploring new markets, contribution towards communities including application
in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities, among others.
