dc.description.abstract 40 3–4 yr old and 40 5–6 yr old Hindi-speaking children completed a test of syntactic development and a measure of environmental deprivation. Both receptive and expressive syntactic ability increased significantly with age. Males had significantly higher expressive scores. The 2 syntactic ability measures were significantly intercorrelated and tended to be negatively correlated with the degree of deprivation the Ss had experienced.
