dc.description.abstract In most countries of the world, governmental or quasi-governmental agencies are engaged in efforts to stimulate entrepreneurship. This paper seeks to examine the impact of entrepreneurship stimulation efforts in Britain’s deindustrialised coalfields. Analysing the effectiveness of development agencies established specially for this purpose, the paper concludes that for such attempts to be successful they need to be implemented within a socio-economic environment in which entrepreneurship and innovation have at least a presence and an existence. en_US
