Abstract:
Bamboos are grown in large quantities in many of the North-Eastern states but the available
resources are yet to be commercially utilised. Main use is in making houses and mats and
baskets. There are many reserved, protected or unclassified forests with huge production of
bamboos especially along the low altitude hilly areas where the rainfall is high. Nagaland is
not an exception with abundant availability of bamboos. Bamboo shoots are considered as a
delicacy in this region and are eaten regularly round the year.
