Abstract

The rapid economic growth witnessed by India is transforming its predominant rural economy to an urbanized economy. The increased urbanisation has led to the straining of the transportation infrastructure in the major cities and towns across the country. Ahmedabad, popularly known as the commercial capital of the State of Gujarat is one of the major Indian cities facing the problem of inadequate public transport system due to rapid urbanization. The increased urbanisation has led to a significant increase in traffic congestion in the city.
