dc.description.abstract Man has exploited canes for centuries. Their properties of toughness, strength, flexibility and elasticity have made them useful for many purposes. While canes are normally used for furniture, hats, baskets, walking sticks, fishing rods etc, in some areas, suspension bridges are made entirely of Cane. Cane splits are used for basketry and extensively used for tying and binding. Canes are of cylindrical and of uniform thickness, solid, straw yellow to brown in colour and are more or less covered by spring leaf sheaths. en_US
