dc.description.abstract | In all countries of the world the demand for footwear is high and in most developing countries growing. Yearly consumption is estimated to be between 3 and 5 pairs per capita in industrialized countries and 1 pair in developing countries. In many of the least developed countries consumption is only 1 pair for ever,y 10 people. Thus, at least in the developing countries there is considerable scope for shoe production. It is also estimated that about 60% of the world's total consumption consists of simple footwear made entirely of non-leather materials and that for the remaining 40% only the upper part of the shoe is made of leather. | en_US |
