dc.description.abstract Concrete blocks for buildings were made for the first time in Europe around 1850. Mass producti,o.n of concrete blocks got under way in step with the development of the cement industry, chiefly in the Western countries, especially around 1918. In the United States, the concrete block industry recorded a major development after the introduction of the vibration process as a new method of compaction around 1930. en_US
