Synthetic materials are solid organic substances
which have been produced artificially in
a chemical process and are not found in nature.
In their properties they differ to a large extent
from metallic materials. They are considerably
lighter, have a much lower elasticity module and
are excellent insulating material. Considering
their low weight, their strength is rather remarkable,
diminishing, however, with rising temperatures,
so that their use at temperatures exceeding
120°C is a rare exception. |
