dc.description.abstract Transfusion sets are used for the transfer of blood, whereas infusion sets are used for administering infusion solutions. Generally, the design of a transfusion set differs from that of an infusion set only in two minor points: • due to the fact that the blood cells are rather big, the filter in the drip chamber of the transfusion system has a bigger pore diameter than the filter of an infusion kit; • the drip chamber of a transfusion system has a larger volume than that of an infusion set. Infusion therapy is becoming more and more indispensible in modern medicine. During the past few years the consumption of infusion solutions and the range of their application has extended enormously. en_US
