dc.description.abstract | The leaf spring is a very important component of an Automobile. It is the connecting link between the underframe and the chasis and is of semielliptical shape in general and finely heat treated, A leaf spring generally consists of 7 to 21 leaves including the main leaf or mother plate. The length of the main leaf varies from 750mm to 1250mm between the centres of the two eyes. The smallest leaf measures about 150mm. The width varies from 37.5mm to 76.5mm and its thickness from 6mm to l lmm. The main leaf is formed into eyes at the ends to support the shackle pins where as the other leaves are flat and are arranged in decending order of length of provide proper spring action. The leaves are bolted together in the middle by a centre bolt and clamps are fitted at suitable intervals to hold the leaves in proper position. | en_US |
