Abstract:
This study primarily aims to develop profile of technopreneur based upon their background and motivation to start a high-tech startup in ICT industry. For this, a review of literature is made in order to find prime motives for starting a business. Then with the help of factor analysis, it was found that there are five prime motivating factors for a technopreneur to start a new firm. These are a) Social Influence, b)Self-belief, c)Need for Achievement and Independence, d) Recognition and e) Education and skill utilization. Then after, with the help of Cluster and Discriminant analysis, two groups of technopreneur, i.e. Externally Influenced Technopreneur and Internally Motivated Technopreneurs are identified by combining it with their background information. This study has a practical relevance in terms of development of adequate educational programmes and Entrepreneurship Development Programme related with high-tech business creation. For this study, a survey based research has been conducted on a sample of 104 technopreneurs operating in Information Technology industry in India.
