There are many sizes and types of this equipment in use by surveying and Mining Deptt. The most common type of instrument is of size 4--!-" dia (112mm), bronzed brass case with aluminium circle/divided into half degress, The needle is made of steel with centre and higbly magnetised. The needle can be automatically lifted and lowered. A prism is provided for readina on to hinged shades with reversible mirror. The instrument is provided with Leather sling case and triped for mounting on a Ball and socket joint type.
