dc.description.abstract I. Product and its uses The tappet or valve lifter is held between guides which are generally part of the engine block. Its faces, the contact cam of the earn shaft and its upper end adjustable in length with adjusting screw is just beneath the bottom of the valve stem. When the cam rotates it lifts the tappet which lifts the valve to the open position, connecting the valve part with the combustion chamber. Non-adjustable type of tappets are also used. In such case, the clearance can be decreased by grinding the valve face and valve seat for maintaining valve tappet clearance. Some valve-lifters are Hydraulic valve lifters and this valve-operating mechanism auto-- matically adjusts its length to compensate for difference in valve tappet clearance. The tappet body contains the cylinder and Ule oil reservoir. As an original and replacement item, this will find a good market for Automobiles, Tractors and Marine Engines. en_US
