dc.description.abstract IMilkproductsii'ke't;utte-r;yogu rt,crea-m~-m-argarine'-etc~'are--in'sepa-rabiepa rts of " our daily eating habits. These are used in considerable quantity at every Laotian home, especially in the southern provinces like Savannakhet etc where the Inumber of cattle heads is very high. In this context, however conventional rnethods are still resorted to in the villages to obtain milk products. One very interesting phenomenon identified during the profile identification exercise is that iwhile there are ample cattle heads available in Laos, there is no habit of drinking rnilk. When asked, a few people said that drinki'ng milk makes people fat and !hence low consumption. However, it was found that condensed milk is being :imported from neighboring countries and used in Tea and Coffee. However, 'there is high availability of fresh milk for processing in the country. Due to the easy availability of the raw materials for this unit, this project can be established .at every town or village level, which would not only put the products into good iuse but also provide self-employment to the unemployed youth. In this unit lentrepreneur does require technical knowledge and skill for, it's operation, hence can be easily handled by both men and women. Seeing these two facts i.e. an easy availability of the raw materials required and easy handling of the rnachmes, this unit can also be established in any rural area. en_US
