dc.description.abstract All over the world, it is recognised that the status of women in society, both in the developed and developing countries, continues to be inferior to men, although the women's role is crucial in the family and household economy. However, the importance of the status or women has now been recognised as an important aspect of national development. Women in the traditional societies of Asia and Africa take part with men in producing food stuffs, in addition to endless household work, yet their works are not given due importance. Women have also been denied equal opportunities for their-personal growth and social development in the whole world hut in India the position of women is still worse because of segregated character of the society, the condition of poverty and traditional value system (De Souza: 1975). Efforts are going on at various levels to change the situation, hut the goal seems to be distant, it is more so in case of rural social system. The position of rural women in comparison to their urban counterpart continues to be low. They are kept in the state of subjugation and are denied equal rights to participate in the economic and social life. The indicators of women's position vary in different socio-cultural context. These are not the same for urban and rural Indian women. Rural women in particular have remained relatively backward due to the traditional values, illiteracy, superstitions, social evils and many other cultural factors (Giriappa. S: 1988).A large number of studies have been conducted by various academicians belonging to different disciplines of social sciences, to understand the relationship between the introduction of technology and position of women in the society. en_US
