Abstract:
In the present paper an attempt is being made to diagnose the deteriorating standards in entrepreneurship particularly in Small Scale Industries (SSI) and to prescribe the essentials for an entrepreneur to become relevant for the post reform era. An attempt has also been made to identify the various attributes required in the entrepreneur through the ‘SHE’ model of women empowerment including Spiritualistic, Humanistic and Existential aspects of sustainable human resource development. Women can play a much greater role in industry by harnessing their feminine strength in communication, relationship building and conflict management. The paper discusses the ‘ASK’ model of existence with Abilities of head and heart, Skills of motherhood, knowledge of the Indian industry in changing economic scenario. The ‘MCA’ model of Skills including Morality, Credibility and Accountability. The ‘NAW’ approach of marketing advocated in the paper includes Need of consumer, Affordability and Worth of the goods and services being produced and marketed by Indian entrepreneur. SSI faces a bleak future. There are many factors responsible for the present status of SSI but a few controllable ones can still save the situation from its own burden of inefficiency. Labour unionism has played havoc with the interests of the SSI and our political setup has fanned the fire of labour unrest. Needless to say that bureaucratic and political setup has also to become competitive and efficient for improving the SSI in India. Besides the problems of non-availability of raw materials, inability to access the market needs, inadequacy of capital, high level of competition from large-scale industries, the small-scale sector is suffering from the lack of entrepreneurial ability and initiative leading to inefficient management.
