Data from 2001 and 2011 census along with secondary sources have been used by the researcher. Data relating to prominent household amenities like housing condition, drinking water, separate kitchen, LPG connection and toilet facilities have been analysed to estimate progress during the specified census years. District-wise comparison has also been attempted to analyse the influence of urbanisation, literacy and GDP on the status of basic amenities. The study has found that there is improvement in relation to availability and accessibility of most basic amenities, both quantitatively and qualitatively. However, there is need for improving the quantum of all facilities in most of the districts.
