New innovations are taking place in trade, business and industry. In order to promote industrial development in the backward region, entrepreneurial activities are being given the utmost importance. The emergence of women as entrepreneurs is a significant development in the emancipation of women and securing for them a place in the society. Women entrepreneurs are making a mark and helping economic progress of various developing economies. The newly created Uttarakhand state comprises of thirteen districts. A study of entrepreneurial activities carried out by women in the nine blocks of Chamoli district has been conducted. The economy of the district is agrarian in nature with 80% of the population depending upon agriculture for its livelihood. In this sector, women have emerged as an economic asset in the form of agricultural labour. But it is also an established fact that in the existing frame of technology and level of development, agriculture is inadequate to provide gainful employment.
